Ice fishing season rewards anglers who move fast. You find fish by drilling holes, not by sitting still. That is why your auger matters more than almost any other item in your sled. The ION Alpha Plus Gen 3 promises light weight, quiet power, and a battery that lasts all day. Those are big claims….
Ice fishing changed fast over the last few seasons. Gas augers used to rule every lake. Now battery augers do the same job with less noise, less mess, and far less weight. The StrikeMaster Lithium 24V USA Edition sits right in the middle of that shift. It weighs about as much as a bag of…
Ice fishing rewards people who move. You drill, you look, you move again. A heavy gas auger punishes that style. The Eskimo Pistol Bit 2.0 flips the math. It weighs under five pounds, bolts into a cordless drill you may already own, and chews through hard water fast. I spent a full season with the…
Cold mornings on the ice test your gear fast. Wind cuts through cheap fabric. Zippers freeze. Poles snap. A good hub shelter fixes all of that in under a minute, and the Eskimo QuickFish 3HD claims to be one of the fastest. I spent a full season hauling this red pop up across lakes in…
Fly rod shopping gets confusing fast. One shop tells you to spend $900. Another says any stick under $200 will do. Somewhere in the middle sits the Redington Vice, a green and gold rod that has quietly built a cult following since it launched. It casts hard, costs less than most premium rods, and carries…
Fly anglers love a good debate about reels. Some swear by sealed drags and sealed bearings. Others want nothing more than a spool, a spring, and a satisfying click. The Redington Zero sits firmly in the second camp, and it has built a loyal following among small stream anglers who count every single ounce in…
Shimano built a quiet achiever. The Miravel sits between budget reels and premium reels, and most anglers still walk past it on the shelf. That is a mistake. This reel carries CI4+ carbon construction, HAGANE cold forged gearing, and a drag system borrowed from models costing far more. I fished the Miravel across bass ponds,…
The Shimano Sedona has quietly earned a reputation as the reel that refuses to die. Anglers buy it as a first “real” reel, then keep using it five seasons later. In 2026, the budget reel market is crowded with flashy newcomers promising ten bearings and 40 pounds of drag. The Sedona promises almost none of…
The Shimano Ultegra has quietly become one of the most talked about spinning reels in tackle shops. Anglers love it because it borrows technology from reels that cost twice as much. The 2025 redesign, now sold through 2026, changed the internals in a big way. Shimano added InfinityXross gearing, InfinityDrive winding, and the Anti Twist…
Big fish break cheap reels. That is the simple truth that pushed Redington to build the Behemoth. This reel promises a 30 pound drag, a deep spool, and a price that sits far below premium saltwater gear. On paper it looks too good. In hand, it feels heavier and chunkier than you expect. I fished…
